Recently, a man I had admired and respected began criticizing another man who I admire and respect. The first man, Fat Mike, began saying that the other man, President George W. Bush was an ignorant slob who people only listen to because they just believe what the government tells them. However, the more arguments Fat Mike began to make, the more like an idiot he began to seem. While I do feel that some of his points like his ties to big business and the fact that following in his father’s footsteps was becoming a factor in his decision making many of his other points were pretty damn ig’nit. Saying something like America sucks and Holland is way better because they have legal drugs and prostitution isn’t going to swing my vote. However, Mike’s biggest political move (outside making his band’s newest album’s title and cover a direct slam against the President) was to establish the Punkvoter website, which was established for two reasons. 1, to get punk kids aware of political issues so they can think for themselves and 2, to get Bush out of office. Don’t the two contradict each other? On the one side he’s trying to promote freethinking and on the other he’s using his celebrity status to tell people how to think. By the way, while W’s rich parents may have hooked him up in college, he still has his bachelors from Yale and an MBA from Harvard. Mike’s Mom is pretty damn rich but he only got a degree in human sexuality from some JC in Santa Cruz. W. also flew jets in the military. I don’t care who your Dad is or who pulls what strings; you can’t cheat your way through fighter pilot training. Fat Mike runs a record label that once put out a record by Less Than Jake. So, I think if Mike wants to make a career out of attacking someone, go right ahead. But I also wouldn’t criticize a man who often misspeaks in public, when you yourself have been quoted as saying, “people say I’m ignorant for saying these things, but I'm not. So F--- you, I'm right.”
Anyway, that was supposed to be a short segway into this big ramble on how Ashton Kutcher sucks and is making the youth of America stupid, but that other ramble wore me out. Maybe tomorrow.
